In 2004, when „Delta-Comm“ company appeared on Georgian telecommunication market, the major part of internet providing service was depended on a Satellite connection. The only alternative of Satellite connection was Poti-Novosibirsk see cable, which connects with world Wide Web through Russia.
A project „Delta - Net“ launched by the „Delta-Comm” was the first alternative solution for getting high speed internet through Turkey , which completely changed existed market price for internet providers. After couple of month of hard „Delta - Net“ net successfully replaced all the existed satellite connections, dedicated to internet traffic. In about 6 months the company gained a control over 90% of the market. The companies such as: Georgia online, Sanet, Telenet, Caucasus Networks and other internet providers were receiving internet traffic mainly through „Delta - Net“.
In 2007 project „Delta - Net“ has been sold to the big internet provider company Caucasus online, which itself is comprised with former Caucasus Networks, Georgia online, Sanet and telenet.
In 2007 apart from selling „Delta - Net“, due the high demand from the market, the development of draft project of fiber optic backbone has been launched. In 2007 the owners of the main net have been Pop-net and railway telecom. These companies did not have and still don‘t have alternative ways and in the case of cabel damage or even damaging of certain parts of the cable, results in switching-off the whole line. What annoys not only ordinary customers, but also telecom operators of the neighbouring countries.
the aim of the Delta-Comm was to build up on the whole territory of georgia as domestic as well international modern backbone line, with several alternative crossing from east to west georgia and in that regions, where the intenrnet market is not development for retail customers.
The development of the main directions of the net took almost 1 year. Relevant engineering droughts and projects have been created. The first component of the net has been agreed with the relevant government institutions and after receiving all the necessary permitions the decision has been made on building net with own recourse.
For experience sharing the experts of “Delta-Comm” visited big European operator and construction companies.
Based on gained experience and according to European standards in 2008 the company started construction of the first section of the net in the direction of Akhaltsikhe-Brjomi-khashuri territory.
